"If Matt lived in a public library he would be the one who sneaks around behind the magazine racks and switches Runner's World and Atlantic Monthly." - Kate Netzler. Introductions are always a bit awkward. My goal is to somehow get you interested in me without annoying you, and your goal of course is to avoid me while wasting as little of your life as possible. Its a wonder anybody likes anybody, really. Well, I'll just tell you a bit about the new album. "The Shortest Distance Between Two Points" draws from folk, country, and roots rock, whereas the previous two releases have been primarily pop rock albums. I placed more emphasis on songwriting with "The Shortest Distance..." and there is simply more live instrumentation on the album than on any of my previous releases. This record quickly became one big, fun, collaborative musical party, featuring guest musicians from bands such as Solafide (rip, now Dear Future), Amnesty Letters, When Sorrow Fails, and the Four-Five-Ones. Influences for the new album include Wilco, Ryan Adams, Johnny Cash, Things in Herds, The Normals, All Star United, and the Beach Boys. About me personally -I just completed three out of the four most stressful life changes, in rapid succession. I got married to my wonderful wife Kristin, moved from Chicago to Nashville, and also changed careers from student to web developer. That all pretty much happened in one month. While life was a bit too hectic to write songs during that period of time, you can bet that it will be fueling material for months to come. I get bored, so please, feel free to contact me at pedalboy@pedalboy.net if you are interested in music, Russian history, physics, or absurdist literature. Thanks for hanging out. -Matthew Conrad Good |
